Pokémon Sword & Shield: How To Evolve Piloswine Into Mamoswine | Rare Evolution Guide

Piloswime is a powerhouse Pokémon that’s a great mid-game pic as you’re working through the final three Galar gyms in Pokémon Sword & Shield — and he also has a very weird evolution to unlock Mamoswine. Learn how to get the ancient, evolved form of Piloswine with our quick guide. It’s actually very easy if you know how he works!

Lots of Pokémon require special evolution methods, and old Pokémon often have new ways to evolve in Pokémon Sword & Shield. Evolution Stones evolve even more Pokémon than before, and they’re easier to find in the wild — you can pay the Digger Duo 500 watts (near the Wild Pokémon Nursery) for a chance at earning every type of Evolution Stone. This evolution method isn’t nearly that random.

How To Evolve Piloswine Into Mamoswine | Rare Evolution Guide
Go to this NPC in any Pokémon Center and select ‘Remember a move’!

Mamoswine is a mammoth Pokémon that you can bring back from extinction with the Move Reminder NPC. To actually evolve Piloswine into Mamoswine, you just need to follow these simple steps.

  • How To Evolve: At Level 33 Swinub will evolve into Piloswine. With Piloswine, travel to any Pokémon Center and talk to the Move Reminder NPC on the left.
    • Choose to relearn the move “Ancient Power” for Piloswine.
    • Level up with Ancient Power, and you’ll evolve into Mamoswine.

It’s just that simple! Ancient Power is a move that you’ll only be able to learn with Piloswine. It seems like a random move you’ll have to farm for, or an Egg Move only available through breeding — it isn’t! It’s just a move Piloswine has to relearn from the Move Reminder NPC. That makes life a whole lot easier.

You can find Swinub wandering the Wilds randomly. Piloswine is a little more rare, and appears as a very difficult encounter. All of these Pokémon are Ice / Ground, so they’re more likely to appear in snowy weather. They’re a great Pokémon to have, and Mamoswine is pretty tough — and easy to unlock once you get a Piloswine. They’re some of my favorites.
