Red Dead Online: 16 Simple Tips To Help You Enjoy Online | Beginner’s Guide

May 24, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Struggling with some of the weirder aspects of the wild west? Here are 16 simple tips you might want to keep in mind next time you log into Red Dead Online.

#9: Pick Plants In The Wild To Feed Your Horse

Horses are constantly running out of steam while sprinting around the environmental. This is especially annoying in story missions, where you’ll need to chase enemies down — instead of buying apples and food, you can pick plants. This is a free source, and all horses will gladly gobble up roots and veggies for an instant Stamina Core refill.

#10: Raid Gang Hideouts For A (Rare) Chance To Get Treasure Maps

There are 24 Gang Hideouts in RDO — mostly located at named locations — and they’re a nice way to earn XP with your posse. Even better, the bosses at the end will sometimes drop a randomized treasure map. These special maps are exclusive to RDO, and randomly generate a location you’ll need to search. The lockboxes usually contain a little money, some trinkets to fence, and fragments of a Gold Bar.

#11: Train Yourself To Score Endless Headshots

Headshots are the fastest method to earn XP and get fast kills. Once you master the headshot, you’ll master basically everything else in RDO. When you can afford it, I recommend purchased the Bolt-Action Rifle. The Repeater also works for constant headshots. The more accurate, the better.

Auto-Aim is extremely forgiving in RDO. Lock-on to your target, then move your targeting cursor just slightly up. Don’t go left or right — train yourself to go straight up, and wait a second for the reticule to close for a perfect headshot. When the dot turns red, fire with your repeater / rifle. Keep training, and you’ll score endless headshots in story missions, and then you’ll do pretty well in PVP too.

#12: Executions (With Special Ammo Equipped) Give You Even More XP

The biggest XP gains don’t just come from headshots. Equip your pistol with a special ammo type, like Split-Shot bullets, then charge and hit your enemies with an execution kill for the biggest XP payout of them all. The best place to farm execution kills is the final (Beta) story mission called ‘Kill Them, Each and Every One Of Them’ — in this mission, you spawn with a heavy armor suit. That makes charging into enemies incredibly easy.
