#5: All Events Use Your Ammo Pool, Save A Few Bucks To Refill
PVP and PVE — it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, you’ll use ammo from your character’s inventory pool. Try to keep stocked-up before entering a story mission or a PVP session. You can refill from the lobby. Just go to “Purchases” and get supplied. It costs less than $1 for 200 revolver bullets, and less than $2 for 200 Repeater shells.
It’s annoying to refill, but absolutely required. It’s also much cheaper purchasing ammo this way — in my experience.
#6: Don’t Waste Money On Food | Hunt & Cook Meat
There’s no reason to waste money purchasing expensive bean cans in RDO. You can keep your health up just by hunting animals. They’re literally everywhere, and it doesn’t matter what star rating their pelts are. Skin an animal, and you’ll always get some fresh meat. Cook it up at any fire, and you’ll have a free supply of health core restoratives on hand.
If you’re looking for Health Cures, those appear in story missions. You’ll find one in “Love and Honor”, in the bedroom where you meet the runaway wife. In the train story mission, you can loot a Health Cure from the medical car in the far back of the train.
#7: Story Missions Give The Most XP, And You Can Replay Them
For lots of XP, you’ll mostly want to stick to story missions. You can replay any story mission you want with friends by opening up the Progression Menu and selecting the mission you want to play. You’ll enter a lobby — if you don’t want to play with strangers, just exit the lobby and reconvene at the yellow story mission marker with your posse.
The fewer players, the more XP you’ll be able to earn. Beware — getting killed and losing team lives will result in a smaller XP reward at the end of the mission. You’ll also earn XP from PVP game modes, but it doesn’t come quite as quickly.
#8: Save Your Rank 10 Gold Bar For The Lake Lure
At Rank 10, you’ll get a Treasure Map in the mail. Complete it and you’ll earn enough Gold Bar fragments for a complete gold bar. The best use (I’ve found) so far for this premium currency is north of St. Denis — go to the fishing shop and you can purchase a Lake Lure for 1 Gold Bar. The Lake Lure allows you to fish without purchasing bait, and it isn’t unlocked until Rank 30. That’s a very long time!
