Valkyria Chronicles 4: 11 Tips To Help You Master Every Battle | Beginner’s Guide

September 26, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Get 11 combat-ready tips from a Valkyria veteran. Here’s everything you need to know about Valkyria Chronicles 4, with tips to help you earn A-Ranks every time.

Use Snipers For Precision Hits & Mortars To Clear Clumped Infantry

Snipers and Mortars are the bread-and-butter of your army. Their long-range abilities are too useful to ignore, but they’re only good for support. So — use them to support your Scouts! A Scout isn’t very powerful all on their own, but you need them to capture locations or reach mechanisms.

Scouts suddenly become powerhouses when they’re spotting enemy encampments. Use Mortars to clear sandbags or knock enemies out of cover, or defeat multiple enemies that are clustered together. Snipers are great for taking out Shocktroopers or Lancers with headshots — if they’re in cover, use Mortars to flush them out, or the Scout can drop a grenade on them, making them easy pickings for your Sniper. Using the right units together is way, way more powerful than bum-rushing a location with multiple troops.

You Don’t Need To Fight Everyone | Sprint For The Base Camps

Most maps are absolutely crawling with soldiers. Ignore them! Ignore tanks if you have to. Your goal is the most important thing in Valkyria 4, and reaching that goal will win the mission. It doesn’t matter how many enemies you’ve defeated or tanks you’ve destroyed. You don’t earn extra XP for destroying enemies — it’s all about speed. Moving fast is your best friend, and enemy base camps will keep you stumbling as they summon endless reinforcements.

Don’t bother fighting everyone! Instead, focus on capturing base camps or completing main objectives. Once a base camp is captured, reinforcements will stop in that area, and all nearby enemies will (usually) attempt to retake the camp. Summon a Shocktrooper to sit on the camp, behind cover, and you can easily takeout multiple enemies as they try to retake the camp — and that’s all without spending any extra CP hunting down each individual soldier.
