#5 Tail Concerto
- Developer: CyberConnect
- Publisher: Atlus USA
- Release: November 3, 1999
- Price: $140
Tail Concerto is an action-adventure platform game with a steampunk fantasy setting. Overall the game narrative is kid friendly with players taking the role of officer Waffle Rybread who must stop the Black Cat Gang from stealing magical crystals. However, again likely due to the release of the PlayStation 2 the game failed to sell well.
There was a sequel planned for the series a few years later that was in the works but ultimately never finished. As a result of the low sales, Tail Concerto became a rare title that will cost you over a hundred dollars unless you happened to already have the game in your collection.
#4 Revelations: Persona
- Developer: Atlus
- Publisher: Atlus USA
- Release: September 20, 1996
- Price: $156
You’re likely already aware of the Persona series as the franchise is continuing to thrive in today’s market. However, the first entry to the series has become quite the rare and expensive PlayStation video game. Overall this is an RPG where teenagers are fighting off supernatural threats and while the game helped spawn the Persona series, Atlus didn’t print very many copies for gamers.
Atlus has a tendency to do that with their video games as gamers will find limited runs with few reprints. In fact, this first Persona title didn’t have a remake or remaster for other consoles after its release until the PlayStation Portable came around. All-in-all, this is a popular game that was hit with a low print run making the title a bit pricey today.
#3 The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
- Developer: Capcom
- Publisher: Capcom
- Release: April 30, 2000
- Price: $212
Set as a prequel to the Mega Man Legends series, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne launched in mid 2000’s. The game is an action-adventure third-person shooter. This is another game that had a positive reception but again due to the PlayStation 2 release happening in the same year, the game didn’t have much of a chance to sell enough units to keep it going afloat.
#2 LSD: Dream Emulator
- Developer: Asmik Ace Entertainment
- Publisher: Asmik Ace Entertainment
- Release: October 22, 1998
- Price: $300
LSD: Dream Emulator is a video game that offered less of a gameplay experience but was advertised more as an art form. Overall this is a first-person video game that showcased bizarre locations and characters where players are able to freely explore and run into objects that will transport the character into a different world. The title was developed by Asmik Ace Entertainment after taking cues from a dream diary from one of the developer’s employee.
This title was so bizarre that it slowly grew a cult following over the years which made it a rare find today. While the game only released in Japan, gamers everywhere have been seeking a copy to add into their collection.
#1 Elemental Gearbolt Assassin Case Edition
- Developer: Alfa System
- Publisher: Working Designs
- Release: June 30, 1998
- Price: $2,100
Elemental Gearbolt was a light gun shooter with RPG elements that was overall a well-received video game. However, the real reason this title is in the list is due to the game having an exclusive edition released by Working Designs. A total of fifty Assassin’s Cases were given away during 1998’s E3 expo. The journalists that have the case received a copy of the game along with a golden memory card along with a golden light gun. Because of the limited amount of cases that were released, the whole collection can cost gamers upwards of $2,000.
