The Best Nintendo Switch Games Released So Far

Dec 10, 2018 Dennis Patrick

The best Nintendo Switch games so far in 2018.

#25 Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
  • Developer: MachineGames
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

The video game Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus follows the events of Wolfenstein: The New Order which alters actual historical events. With the Nazi Regime ruling the world, a military resistance looks to fight back within America, acting as the nation’s second American Revolution against the Nazi rule.

#24 Doom
  • Developer: id Software
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

Doom is an iconic franchise that sparked interest and a bit of controversy when it launched in 1993. Now, decades later, the game franchise received a much-needed facelift with a completely new reboot known simply as Doom.

The reboot launched in 2016 and thankfully the developer’s id Software did an incredible job at making a true reboot of the franchise. This is a flesh and blood torn massacre for the demons as our protagonist, Doom Guy, unleashes a hell that even the demons weren’t prepared for.

Most often when video games feature demons or any type of creature, there’s a bit of survival horror element tossed into the narrative, but that’s not the case for Doom. Instead, gamers are humanity’s last hope for survival and you’ve got no problem ripping apart limbs off demons or blasting them away with a BFG 9000.

With that said, the narrative won’t be the deepest story you’ll uncover for a video game.

#23 South Park: The Fractured But Whole
  • Developer: Ubisoft San Francisco
  • Publisher: Ubisoft

The latest South Park video game, South Park: The Fractured But Whole is an RPG played in a 2.5D third-person perspective and follows the events that occurred in South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Within the game, players take on the role of the New Kid during a massive war of rival superhero factions. Gameplay features turn-based RPG combat where players can think out attacks before initiating them. Likewise, character classes will be available for players to choose and each will alter character stats such as increasing short-ranged or long-ranged combat.

#22 Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon
  • Developer: ArtPlay, DICO
  • Publisher: 505 Games

Led by former Castlevania series producer, Koji Igarashi, comes the action-adventure game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The video game is in the style of Metroidvania as you explore, craft new weapons, and of course, find new armor.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will follow an orphan named Miriam who has been cursed by an alchemist which is slowly turning her skin into crystal. In order to stop the curse, she must explore a castle to find the summoner of this curse, Gebel, who as it turns out had suffered the same condition.

#21 Oxenfree

  • Developer: Night School Studio
  • Publisher: Night School Studio

Developed as their first debut title, Night School Studio released Oxenfree. This is a supernatural adventure video game that puts players into the role of a teenage girl named Alex. It’s within her weekend trip to a local island that events turn for worse leaving her and a group of friends stranded with a mysterious being.

Most of the game is revolved around choices when speaking to the other cast of characters while you explore the island in search for a means to escape. There will also be a few puzzles to solve as well, though the main center of focus is the story. Speaking of the story, the game will give players the ability to go back and replay the narrative a few times as there will be multiple endings available depending on the choices that you make.
