#10 Resident Evil 7

Capcom went back to the original tone of the Resident Evil franchise with less action-oriented moments and a more survival-horror atmosphere with Resident Evil 7.

The game is set to take place four years after the events of Resident Evil 6, in a fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana. Players will be taking on the role of Ethan, a man who is searching for his missing wife, where his investigation leads him to a derelict plantation mansion, home of the oddity Baker family.

It seems that Ethan will have to escape from the cannibalistic Baker family while also searching for clues of his missing wife. To give players an extra little scare, Capcom added PlayStation VR functionality to the game.

#9 Doom

Doom is an iconic franchise that sparked interest and a bit of controversy when it launched in 1993. Now, decades later, the game franchise received a much-needed facelift with a completely new reboot known simply as Doom.

The reboot launched in 2016 and thankfully the developer’s id Software did an incredible job at making a true reboot of the franchise. This is a flesh and blood torn massacre for the demons as our protagonist, Doomguy, unleashes a hell that even the demons weren’t prepared for.

Most often when video games feature demons or any type of creature, there’s a bit of survival horror element tossed into the narrative, but that’s not the case for Doom. Instead, gamers are humanity’s last hope for survival and you’ve got no problem ripping apart limbs off demons or blasting them away with a BFG 9000.

With that said, the narrative won’t be the deepest story you’ll uncover for a video game.

#8 Nier: Automata

If you’ve been following this video game then you’ll know that this is a sequel to the 2010 video game release known as Nier, a spin-off title from the Drakengard series. Overall, the story is set within a proxy war between machines developed by alien invaders and the last surviving members of humanity.

If you’re not persuaded on picking up Nier: Automata or not then take a look at our Before You Buy series. In the video posted above, we go over the video game and ultimately tell you if it’s a worth purchase.

#7 Resident Evil 2

Capcom has been an iconic video game development studio over the years and its brought out some incredible IPs. One of which was Resident Evil, a title we definitely feature heavily here on this list and as iconic as this series is, there was no surprise when the development team decided to handle remakes. Unfortunately for gamers, most of the remakes were spent on the original title and while that’s not a bad thing, for fans of the series, there have been plenty of vocal pleas for developers to bring out a remake of its sequel, Resident Evil 2. Well, it took a few years but Capcom did just that and delivered gamers a remake of Resident Evil 2 for current generation platforms. This remake does exactly what Capcom did with the original installment. Resident Evil 2 the remake brought in an overhaul to the visuals which made the game look fresh and defined.

However, there were some changes to the game overall such as the game mechanics such as removing the tank controls that were standard years ago to a more acceptable third-person mechanics found in today’s latest releases. Likewise, there was a change to the camera system as players won’t be dealing with a fixed camera perspective. Instead, the development team decided to bring in the camera and feature it over-the-shoulder, bringing the player closer into the action. Luckily, the game wasn’t altered in terms of the story. Players will still take control of both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape the undead filled Raccoon City.

Just as before, this is still a single player video game title just as it was when the game original release game. If you have time to really sink into this survival horror title then we highly suggest playing it. We were personally impressed with the game and how Capcom handled the remake and honestly, we hope that this trend continues with a remake of Resident Evil 3.

#6 Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will mark as the nineteenth main installment to The Legend of Zelda franchise. This time around, players will be placed in a large open-world environment with the ability to play through the game’s dungeons in any order.

Within The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players will take on the role of Link after he awakens from a deep slumber that lasted a hundred years. A mysterious voice alerts link to reach a ruined Kingdom known as Hyrule where he will learn of Calamity Ganon, the antagonist who had previously destroyed Hyrule, though, during the process, he had trapped himself within the Kingdom. Ultimately, Link will have to train and prepare for a battle against Calamity Ganon before he escapes and destroys the world.
