While there are no new amiibo being released for Kirby: Star Allies, the game is still compatible with Nintendo’s unique form of DLC-lite support. There are two types of figures in play — compatible, and non-compatible — and both will give you some rewards. Everything that can be scanned will give you something, even if it isn’t much, and the best rewards are relegated to Kirby’s family of amiibo friends and foes.
Here’s how it all works. The amiibo NFC reader is on the right Joy-Con. To scan a figure, simply place an amiibo (or other scannable) on the right Joy-Con thumbstick. For Kirby: Star Allies, you’ll want to do it in-game, in an actual level to collect your bunch of rewards. There’s nothing especially cool here — not like the Kirby: Planet Robobot exclusive unlockables — but you still might want to scan your amiibo for prizes.
