When it comes to Microsoft, there are a handful of video game titles that are exclusive and well maintained with releases. Near the top of this list is Gears of War, a video game franchise that sparked Cliff Bleszinski as one developer to be recognized as a household name for gamers everywhere.
Since leaving Epic Games and the franchise IP being worked on by The Coalition, it’s curious as to what the former creative force behind the franchise as a whole thought of the latest installment, Gears of War 4. Since its release, Cliff Bleszinski has taken on the game and gave it a playthrough.
During an interview with Gamespot, the famed developer revealed that the video game development studio behind the fourth main installment of the franchise didn’t take enough risks. Instead, he found that the developers simply gave gamers what they wanted.
Describing the experience, Cliff Bleszinski compared it to the latest main installment to the Star Wars franchise. After watching Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, Cliff stated that the director behind the movie gave fans of what they wanted which is fine, but he hopes to see more risks taken in the future.
“What [Gears of War developer The Coalition boss Rod Fergusson] did was give the people what that want. He did the J.J. Abrams Episode VII. “I’ve watched Episode VII five times. I still get misty-eyed and get all excited but when I think objectively about it, I’m like, ‘There wasn’t a lot of risk there.’ So I’m hoping they take a little bit more risk in the future.”
These are some bold statements regarding the latest installment to Gears of War 4, though gamers may find them justified as they come from the creative force that crafted Gears of War to a massively popular franchise.
What did you think of Gears of War 4? Was it a thrilling experience or did it lack some real risks that could have helped gain even more exposure and followers?
