Battlefield series developer DICE has plans to bring its powerful Frostbite 2 graphics engine, which it uses to power its games, to mobile devices like the iPhone and Android. To that end, the developer has put up listings for a mobile-software developer on its webpage.
Battlefield 3 may one of the best looking games on the PC and the console, and it stands to reason that EA (which owns the studio) and DICE may have a vision to bring that standard of visual craftsmanship to handhelds.
The job listing reads as follows:
Frostbite is looking for developers who want to join us in taking our engine to the next level. You will be part of a team focusing on bringing Frostbite to mobile platforms and work closely with game team customers and the Frostbite team to deliver an engine as great on mobile platforms as it is on traditional HD platforms.
Bearing the fact that most games on mobiles are powered by the Unreal Engine, developed by competing studio Epic Games, it stands to reason that the publisher would want to have its own powerful graphics engine to carry its own products on the platforms, if not license it out to other developers for use.
