Yoshida Surprised and Disappointed at Lackluster Third-Party PS Vita Support

October 2, 2012 by Alex Co

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida admits he’s disappointed at the PS Vita’s third-party support.

Whether you're a Sony fan or not, you have to admit, the PlayStation Vita isn't in the best shape right now and most of the blame is on the console's lackluster third-party support.

This sentiment hasn't escaped Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida. In a quick chat with Gamasutra, Yoshida admits that he's not only disappointed by it, but even surprised.

One thing that was surprising and disappointing to us was the [lower] number of third parties to come out [in support] after launch.

Yoshida also states that the PS Vita will eventually become an attractive platform, it's just that they need to "define what a PS Vita is."

As we can expand our install base and articulate what works really well on the platform as compared to others, it will get easier for us to be able get support from third parties.

I think it's safe to say that PS Vita owners would rather that this come sooner rather than later, no? Who knows, though? Maybe with the eventual release of the PS4, this would convince more studios to develop for the PS Vita instead since the PS3 and PS Vita's architecture seems similar enough to have cross-play functionality.

Are you disappointed with the PS Vita's third-party lineup or is this what you were expecting from a new handheld?
