Peter Molyneux’s New Studio 22 Cans Will Only Make “One Game”

October 1, 2012 by Alex Co

Peter Molyneux reveals that his studio will only make one game…

Gaming legend Peter Molyneux seeks to create just "one game" with his new studio 22 Cans.

To put things in perspective, Molyneux's iOS title — Curiosity — won't be that game. However, Curiosity is one of 22 experiments that will be essential in creating that one game.

In an interview with VG247, Molyneux explains that in 22 Cans, some people are working on that main, unspecificed game, while the others are working on an Android version of Curosity and some are working on other experiments.

But everything that we do, every thought that we have, every moment of a day, is all working towards this full game. 22 Cans is only going to make one game and that’s it. You just release that single experience then you refine it and adapt it like – and don’t think of this in any way other than an analogy – when a TV company makes a soap opera.

They’re not thinking about making a sequel to that show. Instead they’re thinking of how they make this show as amazing as possible so that people watch it today, and that they will still be watching in a year’s time. I like to think of our game like that.

Although Molyneux admits that he's still thinking on how can he make this relevant enough and be interesting enough to players that they will want to keep coming back. Before, with boxed goods, the only way to do it was with DLC or a sequel, but now with Curiosity, he states, "I could literally here, right now, refine that experience."

No disrespect to Molyneux, but take what's stated here with a grain of salt seeing as this is Molyneux we're talking about it here. Remember Fable? Yeah, remember how that turned out after all that hype?

Nevertheless, this is still a unique way in developing games. But the question is, can this even work, especially with the people playing games now who always wants something new.
