Microsoft's Windows 8 has been getting some criticism from game developers in the past few months. First Valve's co-founder Gabe Newell refers to Windows 8 as no less than "a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space," saying, "we'll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people."
Then the executive VP of game design at Blizzard's Diablo 3 studio echoed Newell's statement, saying that Windows 8 is "not awesome for Blizzard either". This all stems from Microsoft stating that they will want to have more control over applications and purchases made through Windows 8.
But now Blizzard says it will be putting World of Warcraft (WoW) on Windows 8. Speaking with CVG, senior game designer Scott Mercer and senior software engineer Darren Williams had this to say in response to a question about whether or not WoW will be on Microsoft's newest OS: "Yes. Certaintly," Mercer said while Williams added "We put our games on platforms our players are already on, so yeah, it will be available on Windows 8."
Regarding the previous criticisms, Williams added "Well, we haven't worked with Windows 8 directly yet, but we'll certainly switch over to it. I think that we'll go with the platforms that the most people are on. There's no particular fear we have of Windows 8."
World of Warcraft hasn't done too well in the past year, so they're sure to have their fingers crossed when its latest expansion Mists of Panderia releases tonight. You can watch their launch event below live right now.
