While almost everyone in the gaming world knows Nintendo's "major" announcement later this month in New York will be about the Wii U's price and release date, could this announcement been leaked ahead of time?
According to GoNintendo, Video Product Distributors (VPD) has listed the release date, price point and bundles Nintendo has in store for the Wii U's release. In case you're not familiar with VPD, they're a distribution company that has Amazon, Blockbuster and more as their clients.
All of the bundles have a release date of November 11, 2012 and are priced as follows:
WIIU SYSTEM – GM – 11/11/12 $249.99
WIIU SYSTEM W/ – GM – 11/11/12 $299.99
WIIU SYSTEM 349 W/ – GM – 11/11/12 $349.99
Anyone have an idea what the "GM" stands for? Don't think it's the Gamepad as Nintendo has stated that each Wii U will contain a Gamepad. I'm guessing the two higher-priced units will contain a game or two to justify the higher price, no?
Now, in order to log into the site to view the info, you need to have a proper account. Fortunately for us, a YouTube user had one and recorded footage of them logging in and whatnot.
Before you spread the word that the Wii U will cost $249, do keep in mind that this is still very much a rumor until confirmed by Nintendo. Of course, seeing as their event is set to happen later this month, I'd expect them to just sit quietly by and let these things be.
So, when and if Nintendo announces the Wii U's release date as November 11 and has the corresponding price point, do try and act surprised a bit, won't you?
If true, do you agree with the $250 entry point price tag? What do you think the other SKUs will include to justify the higher price?
