While Resident Evil 6 seems to focus more on action elements than actual horror, fans will fondly remember that there was a time when the franchise had the horror aspect of the franchise at the forefront.
Now, Resident Evil 6 might have a scare or two still, but knowing that the game will always pair us up with a "partner" (AI or human controlled) sure lessens the tension somewhat, no?
Well, it seems the game will still allow you to play the game solo…relatively, that is. Resident Evil 6 has Abilities that you can unlock using Skill Points. This has been known for quite some time now and is part of Resident Evil 6's meta-game. According to Capcom Marketing Coordinator Mike Lunn (via Siliconera), Resident Evil 6 will have a "Lone Wolf" Ability that will let you play the game without the help of a partner.
However, that doesn't mean they won't be around at all. Your partner for a given scenario will still appear in the game to help you open doors and such; but when you get pinned down or knocked down, don't expect any help. It's also not known at this time how this ability completely works. Do you still need to bail them out when they get into stupid situations? Do you still have to call them over to remind them to be near you while you battle the undead?
These questions and more will be answered once Resident Evil 6 hits store shelves on October 2 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
