Walking Dead Episode 3 to Release Soon, Here’s Some Details

Read about the few details we know about Episode 3 while we wait for it’s release.

Most of us are waiting anxiously for the next episode of the acclaimed Walking Dead franchise–and Telltale Games knows. The third episode was slated to release sometime in August–meaning that if Telltale wants to keep its promise, it only has a few days left. Last week, they spoke to IGN, telling them that though Long Road Ahead–the name of the third episode–was sent for approval and could release "any day now." At the time, they didn't know the release date.

Today, Telltale teased us further with a 'Twitter Exclusive' screenshot of the upcoming episode. The shot shows Lee Everett, the protagonist, struggling against a helmet-wearing zombie. Maybe the zombie is like a pilot or something? Hopefully we know soon. But that's one button-mashing segment we can count on, at least.

The first two episodes are available for purchase in the meantime; highly reccomended–even if you're tired of zombie titles. It's not like other zombie titles out there, in that the franchise focuses on the relationship between the survivors–not so much the zombies or zombie-killing, though that's also present.

Episode 2 leaves off with Lee and the gang finding a trove of food and with highly palpable tension. Some characters want to leave the pseudo-fortress they've built, and others want to stay–episode 3 is likely to build on these tensions and force the player to finally choose a side.

What we concretely know is that like the previous episodes, episode 3 will introduce new characters–Christa and Omid. They're a young couple. Like Mark before them, the new characters are meant to show that the character's lives have progressed and they've met new people. It's also meant to keep things fresh, so that you're not always dealing with just the same people. And most importantly, it gives them ample fodder for the zombies: people gotta die in a zombie game, especially a Walking Dead game, no?

More excitingly–in a terrible way–is the developer's promise that from here on out, what happens in the game is likely to make players cry if not throw up. A tall promise, but one that we can probably trust after episode 2's gruesomeness.
