Thanks to the technical creativity of YouTube user SethBling, Minecraft players have the chance to play classic games for the Atari 2600 in game.
Without using any mods or plugins, SethBling has moulded the virtual console out of 2,000 command blocks, which reportedly took him one month to complete. He explains the process in more detail in the technical version of the video, where he highlights the different sprites that make up Mario, Donkey Kong, and other components like barrels and fireballs. Some of the available games include Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and Pac-Man. Like the original Atari 2600, they look simple and come with low quality graphics representative of the earlier years of video gaming.
He showcases Pac-Man’s gameplay towards the end of the video, where he is quick to point out it is “one of the worst ports to the Atari (2600)”. it is in fact Atari’s best selling game of all time.
SethBling has provided a world download and edit filter for any players who are interested in trying out the emulator for themselves.
