Excited for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2? If so, then that game should scratch that itch as it seems that's the last entry in the Lords of Shadow canon…at least the last from Mercury Steam.
Dave Cox, producer of Lords of Shadow, states that they see Lords of Shadow 1 as the beginning of Dracula, while its sequel will be the end of the saga. Aside from the games, Mercury Steam has no intention of "milking" the franchise after their story has been told.
Our intention is to tell our story and then move on to other things. We have a very interesting tale to tell – a story about Dracula. Our intention was to tackle the story from his perspective and give players an angle on his viewpoint. We have no intention of milking the series any further than that. I believe that any story worth telling should have a satisfying ending. This one has exactly that, and once its told I hope our audience will enjoy the saga as a unique and interesting take on the Castlevania mythology.
It's rather refreshing to hear this, no? Normally, a studio finds a goldmine and they keep on going back to it until there's nothing left. Of course, I wouldn't take this as a finality, either. While Mercury Steam doesn't want to make more Lords of Shadow game, that doesn't mean Konami won't find a way to make more of it if they sell a ton of copies of Lords of Shadow 2.
Are you fine with Mercury Steam finishing Gabriel's story next year or would you want more entries in the story they shaped?
