Resident Evil 6, like previous games in the series, is expected to be rather heavy on story. Thanks to the game's classification by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), we know just how much story the game will have.
The BBFC lists Resident Evil 6 as containing over four hours of cutscenes in full-motion video, with a total runtime of 04:15:00, or 255 minutes. These cutscenes will blend seamlessly into Resident Evil 6's tightly written narrative, and preempt gameplay.
The news of the game's lengthy cutscenes may not receive a warm welcome from longtime fans of Resident Evil, many of whom bemoan the series' turn towards action-oriented gameplay—away from the survival horror roots of the first four games. Yet in spite of our reservations, we're keen on seeing how these cutscenes play out and how they'll impact the narrative this time around.
The game itself has received a BBFC rating of 18, which restricts the sale of the game to minors. The rating comes as no surprise given its violent subject matter and its gory depictions of people getting shot in the head.
The game will launch this fall for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
