Konami’s new Metal Gear Survive is being developed without the series’ creator, Hideo Kojima. Over the weekend, Kojima denied that he is playing any part in the game’s development and that the Metal Gear series was never intended to have zombies in it.
Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show (via Kotaku), Kojima was responding to rumors that Survive had been his idea.
“It has nothing to do with me,” he said. “I know absolutely nothing about it. That’s because it’s totally unrelated to me, right? Um, how should I put this? Well, for me, Metal Gear is espionage with political fiction. Right? So, because of that, there’s no reason zombies would show up. This is how I see it, you know?”
When the show’s announcer echoed his words to clarify to the audience that Kojima had nothing to do with Survive, Kojima joked that if he was involved, there would definitely be a bipedal mech in it.
Hideo Kojima is currently collaborating with The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus on Death Stranding, the first game from his new studio.
