The video game has reached the bargain bin of video game retail stores. Mighty No. 9 started out as one of the shining examples of Kickstarter success when Comcept’s crowdfunding campaign first kicked off, but the countless delays and (incredibly) messy release this past June made the gaming community’s sentiments extremely negative. The disappointment of waiting longer in the first place caused people to give up hope of seeing it release at all, and the patient backers and gamers were treated with an incredibly buggy mess and many mix-ups in the game keys they received.
But this debacle ain’t over yet.
On the positive side of things, by the end of August the development team finally released the Mac and Linux versions of the game to Steam. That was one of the last minute delays on release day that Mighty No. 9 had to have due to “final testing by Deep Silver,” according to that announcement back in June. But the other issues brought up back then are still left unresolved.
When it comes to the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, a Humble Bundle FAQ said (back in June) that it would be “coming soon,” with the Vita version of the game getting a longer delay. According to that FAQ post:
At this time the Vita version of Mighty No. 9 is still in development. However, your PSN product key for Mighty No. 9 will unlock the game on your Playstation account. The code is cross-buy compatible so backers who chose PS Vita will be able to play the game on PS3 and PS4 while they await the release of the PS Vita version of the game.
But not much has been seen with either of these Mighty No. 9 ports since. A majority of people have moved on entirely. But the Mighty No. 9 folks recently started their annual “Mighty Month” festivities once again, commemorating the yearly mark since their campaign first began three years ago. The posts of fan art and other creations like that on the website seem fine in of itself, but posting about it on Twitter and Kickstarter have gotten people riled up again to complain about the lack of updates or news about when they’ll get their other rewards.
The assortment of comments and tweets share common concerns:
- Physical rewards (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
- 3DS and Vita status (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11)
- Still haven’t gotten a game code (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
It’s important to clarify that these folks aren’t all asking of instant gratification in every case. What they want is at the very least an update as to how progress on these things is coming along. If there was a hold-up somewhere along the line, people want to know where it happened and what it was.
Among the flurry of comments, one backer claimed that Comcept gave an Autumn release projection at one point. However according to Fangamer (the manufacturing company in charge of this task), they haven’t been provided with key assets from Comcept that are necessary to make it happen.
It’s unclear as to how long this final delay could continue to go on for.
