Sonic the Hedgehog is busy celebrating his 25th anniversary as a video game franchise, and this year is full of parties and events centered around that. During festivities in Tokyo, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka revealed that a new Sonic the Hedgehog game is going to release sometime next year.
Further details will come out during the San Diego 25th Anniversary Party on July 22nd. This event was announced back in March by Aaron Webber (guy who runs the Sonic the Hedgehog twitter account) during his SXSW presentation with Sega. According to the event description:
Celebrate 25 years of Sonic the Hedgehog at our official party at the House of Blues, during San Diego Comic-con! Special guests, musical performances by Crush 40 and Hyper Potions, exclusive 25th Anniversary merchandise and more await!
Food is provided by the venue, and your ticket price also covers limited edition merchandise we’ll be giving away at the show.
Join us as we celebrate the past, and give you the exclusive first look at the future of Sonic!
The event itself is already sold out, but it seems as if attendees are in for a guaranteed good time. If you want to read more about Sonic’s video game legacy, you can check that out here.
