Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare Gets Another Trailer

June 14, 2016 by Habeeb Alaswad

Spaceships, robots and spaceships!

As we all expected, we received a new trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at E3. The first announcement trailer ended up being one of the most hated videos ever released on Youtube. Let’s see if this one fairs any better.

The trailer starts with the typical walking around a base and throwing exposition at the player, but this time you’re on a spaceship. The player gets briefed on the mission and then they do more walking around the docking bay to reach his ship, a “Jackal”. The trailer takes us straight to combat after the takeoff sequence. The dogfight system features both free-flight and on-rail section. It looks very close to Ace Combat Assault Horizon’s dogfight system.

Another transition and the player leaves his ship and grapples his way in zero gravity towards the bridge of an enemy capital ship. Here they show off the grappling hook mechanic and zero gravity FPS where you can, strangely, still hear your weapons and explosions in the vacuum of space. We’re also shown energy-based grenades and a rifle while the player takes out a few bad guys, and then finishing one with a melee kill where he set off one of the grenades on the enemy’s belt. The melee kill reminded me a lot of how DOOM handled its glory kills but it doesn’t seem to work as well for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

The player now makes his way into the bridge and we see how FPS sections work with gravity on. It is the regular Call of Duty fair with two little additions. There in an anti-gravity grenade that sends enemies floating in mid-air. Also, robots. They just take more bullets to put down.

Trailer then shows  about a minute of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered bundled with the main game.

So what’s my take on all this? It feels like Call of Duty has lost its focus with this game. Who are they trying to please? Call of Duty fans mostly aren’t into space sims or sci-fi in their games, and those of us who want to have some space combat already have much better games to play.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be released on 4 November, 2016 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
