When it came to Ubisoft’s E3 Conference, everyone expected to see the recently announced Watch Dogs 2 show up. It did, and it showed off a mission with main character Marcus Holloway. The senator is using social media to control people’s minds and rig an election, and Dedsec decides to infiltrate his penthouse and steal his data.
Ubisoft also released a Q&A talking about the members of this gang of Dedsec friends that Marcus Holloway teams up with. The guy with the electronic mask is Wrench – he’s an anarchist more focused on the entertaining destruction of breaking the law. Sitara is the de facto leader of the Dedsec group, who focuses on the public image and spreading the message of their organization through PR moves, marketing, and other artistic choices. Josh is Dedsec’s lead programmer, a person who looks on the positive side of things and tries to keep the group in check, while digging through social media and code to find patterns and flaws.
The main point of the game is to acquire online followers, to allow you to harness their energy for a botnet that allows you to obtain more powerful hacks. The RC car and Drone help Marcus explore locations inconspicuously without attracting too much unwanted attention. His signature weapon is called the Thunderball, which is basically a billiard ball threaded onto a lanyard. But if that weapon doesn’t seem right for you, Marcus will also have a range of 3D printed weapons in his cyber arsenal.
Watch Dogs 2 releases on November 15th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Thanks to a partnership with Sony, PS4 users will get all DLC 30 days early. Also in the same spirit of Assassin’s Creed, Sony announced a partnership with Ubisoft to make a Watch Dogs movie.
