Overwatch developer Blizzard Entertainment is looking into making adjustments for Widowmaker, game director Jeff Kaplan said.
“We have some internal experiments going to see if we can keep her viable while lowering the frustration threshold a little bit,” Kaplan added. “Right now, this is just exploration. If something more comes of it, we’ll let you know.”
Kaplan’s response was prompted by a post on the Overwatch forum that pointed out Widowmaker’s unchallenged dominance in certain situations. According to the poster, her large bodyshot damage, rechargeable shots, and powerful SMG put Widowmaker at an unfair advantage.
Blizzard has been pretty good about addressing fan concerns thus far; they look to be taking prompt action to nerf McCree’s overpowered flashbang and Fan the Hammer combo. The team doesn’t have an exact solution just yet, but is reported testing changes internally.
The Overwatch developer is also interested in buffing tank hero D.Va, but hasn’t outlined exactly which ways she’ll be adjusted. According to principal designer Geoff Goodman, the ultimate goal is for D.Va to be “a viable aggressive initiation tank.”
