Gears of War: E-Day faced an unexpected roadblock over the weekend.

The official Gears of War community Twitter account made this announcement:
Earlier today, some players experienced intermittent disconnects, login issues, or other service disruptions in Gears of War: E-Day.
These issues were due to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting our online services.
Our teams are continuing to monitor and mitigate this activity. We’ll provide updates if there are any significant changes.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Gears of War: E-Day just launched last week, and had its first weekend a few days ago. This was an unnecessary inconvenience to players and it also means we don’t know how many gamers do want to play it online.
We did report that it seemed to have a good Early Access launch, with positive critical reception and enjoyed high numbers for Steam concurrent players.
As for how successful Gears of War: E-Day actually is, we’ll have to wait until XBOX decides to make an official announcement.
