Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has responded to a report about AI and Fortnite, and he isn’t bashful about it at all.

Jason Schreier reported that Epic Games delayed a Disney Fortnite experience to pivot the entire dev team to making it using AI tools. This game will be a shooter that’s also a crossover between Marvel and Star Wars.
Notably, one internal message used the phrase ‘no more hand-written code.’ But there’s no need to speculate on this story.
Shortly after the story was published, Tim Sweeney came forward to say this on social media:
We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration.
The aim isn’t to do the same stuff with fewer people, but to enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff, and to bring the benefits to all teams using Unreal.
Notably, Tim didn’t name Fortnite, as his message is that all of Epic Games is pivoting to AI. But it shouldn’t be a surprise that many other game companies are doing the same. Tim’s just willing to stick his neck out – and maybe he’s right to believe he’s inoculated.
