Update: NCSoft has posted a new Cinder City trailer for Gamescom. You can watch the trailer below.
NCSoft has finally given Project LLL its official name.

The History Of Project LLL
NCSoft announced Project LLL all the way back in 2022. The Korean publisher gave us the most basic description of the game at the time. It is a MMO third person shooter in an alternate reality version of Korea.
NCSoft did not elaborate on their plans even further. They did emphasize they wanted to do something else than the battle royale trend.
In hindsight, this was a good call on their end. The market for battle royale has more or less been taken by Fortnite. And most of what’s left of that market is owned by PUBG.
A Big Showing At G-Star
NCSoft then gave us a more tangible look at Project LLL in 2023. This time, they brought a trailer to G-Star, Korea’s equivalent of Gamescom.
And the trailer gave us NCSoft’s high concept. While the battleground was an abandoned high-rise city in ruin, they were not going for a post-apocalyptic vibe reminiscent of The Last Of Us.
This time, we got introduced to our operative, who is kitted out in futuristic gear and weapons. It’s heavily implied his organization is advanced enough to be using nanites.
And when our operative lands down, his enemies also seem to be futuristic soldiers. Our first enemies appear to be human, but there are also inhuman foes. This trailer ends with more questions than answers.
Are we fighting from an even more distant future? Are the enemies we fight automatons or outer space aliens? If everyone is so high tech how come they’re still using guns and helicopters?
And then, we get to today.
Introducing Cinder City
NCSoft has announced Project LLL, the ‘massively multiplayer online tactical shooter’, under its new name, Cinder City. The game is being developed by NCSoft’s subsidiary, BigFire Games.
NCSoft also provided this description:
CINDER CITY will feature dynamic graphics built on Unreal Engine 5 and a “seamless” open world. The game is a history-altering science fiction story where 23rd century future technology coexists with the 21st century present.
Set in a “devastated futuristic Seoul” modeled after actual districts like Samseong-dong and Nonhyeon-dong, it promises realistic combat mechanics that reflect firearm operating principles.
NCSoft did not share a new trailer this time, but they did share that Cinder City has new social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
NCSoft must be planning for an even bigger reveal soon. But that soon may be a matter of days or months. Their description did not waver from their 2023 trailer. We can probably expect a similar game when they make that big announcement soon.
