Grand Theft Auto VI Fans Uncover Potential Companion App

July 1, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Will we get a more immersive experience with social media?

Easily the biggest and most anticipated game to release in 2026 is Grand Theft Auto VI. This title was originally scheduled to release this year, but the developers needed a little more time to finalize it. Fortunately, this should result in a far better product, allowing devs to build upon what might have been scrapped to meet a hard deadline. One of those features could have included a companion mobile app.

Thanks to Dexerto, we’ve learned that Rockstar Games has posted a few more job listings. However, one of those listings caught Reddit’s attention as Rockstar is seeking a mobile engineer. While Rockstar Games wasn’t keen on revealing exactly what the developer would be working on specifically, it was noted that they are looking for someone who can further develop for iOS and Android. This would be regarding building and maintaining their mobile platform, including their SDK and build systems.

That has sparked quite a few fans to speculate that this is a companion application connected to Grand Theft Auto VI. From there, as you can likely imagine, there’s endless speculation on what this app could provide players. Outside of general information, such as a map system and possibly a directory of retail locations, others have suggested that we could gain a far more immersive experience.

Perhaps we’ll be able to call in services through your mobile phone app, such as a taxi. Likewise, another big component that has proven popular is the ability to interact with social media. That is one focus that Rockstar Games has focused on with some of the trailer footage. You’ve got to see some wild moments played out from footage captured by others on phones and shared online.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what Rockstar Games cooks up. We have until May of next year before the game is set to release into the marketplace. Therefore, it may be a while before we see what this mobile app has to offer players. After all, it looks like this upcoming game will have a massive map to explore, which would make having another map easily accessible on a phone nice to have.
