The long awaited Assassin’s Creed movie comes out this December, and IGN was able to score some more details on a set visit to the location.
In a turnaround from the game series, the Assassin’s Creed movie will take place 65% in the present day, and 35% in 15th Century Spain. In the video games, the plot mostly focused on the distant past rather than the present day.
Fassbender said to IGN, “This isn’t a video game that we’re making. We’re trying to make a cinematic experience, so there are new things that we have to introduce.”
But executive producer Pat Crowley and director Justin Kruzel worked closely with Ubisoft to make sure they understood the rules of the Assassin’s Creed universe. “It was about trying to inject a new character who can have some sort of relationship with the game perhaps in the future. It was essentially about finding a character that was fresh,” Kurzel told IGN.
“We just went ahead and created a new [story] that respected the rules, that a gamer could come and go, ‘I know this world.’” Crowley said.
In terms of iconic items from the games, you’ll notice the Guillotine Gun from Assassin’s Creed Unity, Shao Jun’s sword from Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, Baptiste’s sword from Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, and Connor’s bow from Assassin’s Creed III.
Michael Fassbender said work had begun on the second movie, and they have ideas for the third one too.
