Alien Hunters, the 2nd DLC pack for XCOM 2 is out today and it adds a ton of new actual gameplay content to the game. The previous DLC, , added only new ways to customize your characters. This one adds meat.
The new DLC is available for $9.99 or as part of the Reinforcement Pack, and features a narrative-driven mission, new weapons and armor, and a new update to the Avenger’s Armory called “Hunter’s Lodge.” There are also three new aliens you’ll have to battle against, called Rulers.
The three Rulers include the Viper King, Berserker Queen, and Archon King. These foes will appear randomly throughout the campaign after you complete the story mission and require special tactics to defeat. These rulers will only appear for a limited time during missions and will escape to haunt you another day if they aren’t defeated.
In addition to the aliens, players will get to play around with four new weapons, including the Bolt Caster, Hunter’s Axe, ShadowKeeper pistol, and the Frost Bomb grenade. There’s only one of these weapons in the game, so if one of your units dies while having it equipped, you’ll have to lug his or her corpse back to keep the weapon. There are also three new armor sets that you can create after salvaging the Ruler aliens’ corpses.
The new DLC was released alongside a new update that added bug fixes, optimizes performance, and balances both single- and multiplayer modes.
Beyond DLC, XCOM 2 also supports a huge modding community. The makers of the first game’s Long War Mod have since released a Toolbox mod for XCOM 2 that you should check out.
