Ubisoft has released a detailed roadmap for the first year of XDefiant, with the team behind the title going on the defensive against those who believe that the game is in a downward spiral.
XDefiant was released on May 21, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Though the title saw large player numbers immediately after launch, the free-to-play shooter has seen a massive drop in engagement over the past few months.
“I just want to quickly address the status of the game. i.e. is the game dying? No, the game is absolutely not dying,” said Ubisoft’s Mark Rubin in a new blog post. “We know there are things we need to improve like Netcode/Hitreg and adding more content to progression, but the game is doing well. We just want it to do better.”
In an attempt to lure players back, Ubisoft is currently giving away virtual currency in XDefiant until September 24. XCoins can be used to buy the game’s battle pass, along with cosmetic items.
New weapons, maps, devices, factions, and event challenges are on the way, along with ranked loadouts, ranked map voting, and a Top 500 Leaderboard.
It was recently announced that Ubisoft’s share price had dropped to its lowest level since 2015 following the release of Star Wars Outlaws. The open-world adventure title was expected to reach 7.5 million sales by the end of March 2025, but Ubisoft has now lowered this number to 5.5 million.
Recently, Ubisoft laid off 45 employees across both its San Francisco studio and Red Storm Entertainment in Cary, North Carolina.
