Lead Game Designer at Naughty Dog, Robert Cogburn, announced today that Uncharted 4 will have free multiplayer DLC.
Right off the bat, we want to highlight that all future maps and modes will be included with Uncharted 4 at no additional cost, and all vanity and gameplay in-game store items will be unlockable through gameplay!
He goes into further details about the different aspects of Uncharted 4‘s multiplayer DLC post launch plans.
On the foundation of their plans, the Uncharted 4 developers believe that having an earnable in-game currency called Relics makes an even playing field. They reaffirmed plans to release maps, modes, and items on a regular basis, and that no DLC item has a paywall behind it. They state this choice in gameplay policy will keep the community unified.
They included a timeline of proposed dates that new content will be added. Despite the fact it’s a broad seasonal deadline for each update, it at least shows commitment to a plan. New maps, game modes, weapons, boosters, and skins will be added on a regular basis all the way through Spring 2017 at least.
The blog post finishes by revealing multiplayer modes that’ll come with Uncharted 4‘s launch.
- Ranked: The game will have some sort of ranked system, going from Bronze III to Diamond I. You get points for winning, you lose points for losing.
- Command: You capture Command Sites on the map to gain points over time, but you can also kill the enemy Captain for a large one-time point boost.
- Team Deathmatch: The classic mode of killing everyone on the enemy team.
- Plunder: You grab an idol and return it to your treasure chest to score a point. You’re free to toss around the idol if you so choose.
- Warm Up Playlist: This is the tutorial for Uncharted 4 multiplayer, allowing new players to get used to the different gameplay mechanics of the online system.
- Trials: The player will go up against NPC opponents in multiplayer-like matches, with the aim of getting a high score for specific kinds of modes.
