Beating Chronos in Hades 2 is no easy feat. It’s almost impossible, even. The dude is time itself, what do you expect? If you want to even have a fool’s chance of beating TIME, then you need to do everything in your power to get more powerful. This means interacting with every single system in Hades 2, repeatedly, forever.

Keepsakes are one of the quickest ways to gain power in Hades 2, even if their effects can’t necessarily be combined. Keepsakes are powerful items that Melinoe can equip to gain modifiers to her run. The specific effect can vary wildly, so we thought we would dive into Keepsakes, how to unlock them, how to upgrade them, and what they do.

Note: Do be aware that Hades 2 is still in Early Access, so anything and everything is subject to change.

How To Unlock Keepsakes

Keepsakes are gifted to you when you indulge in the ancient Olympian tradition of ‘giving people alcohol’. More specifically, handing over the Nectar Of The Gods – a golden liquid made from divine Golden Apples. Nectar as a resource is quite difficult to gather, so we put together a guide covering the resource which you should check out.

Every friendly character in Hades 2 will grant you a Keepsake when you give them a Nectar. Most characters will accept your Nectar immediately and hand over your reward. Some characters, however, will not. If this happens, you need to progress the story and keep on talking to that character until a rapport has been built.

How To Upgrade Keepsakes

Upgrading Keepsakes will drastically increase their power during a run. Upgrading Keepsakes requires you to do battle with enemies. Every ‘room’ you clear will push your equipped Keepsake one step towards upgrading. It’s important to note you have to fight enemies to progress a Keepsake. You will not gain any EXP for visiting Charon, for example.

To reach level 2, you need to clear 25 rooms. Level 3 requires an additional 50 clears for a total of 75 rooms before you max out a Keepsake. This will take multiple runs, but it is well worth the effort.

That’s all we have on Keepsakes in Hades 2 for now. Be sure to check out our other guides for more Hades 2 content.
