The full breakdown on Eurogamer is worth checking out. But in general, you can expect some stricter rules.
The Playstation OS will not be different between PS4 or Neo. There won’t be any sort of Neo controller, as Dual Shock 4 will still be the main focus. Your online experience won’t be different either – there must be equal care given to both systems. You’ll be able to use the same PSN ID on PS4 and Neo, but you might have a headache designating one console as a “Primary”.
Themes, avatars, and trophies, must all work the same way on both systems. DLC must be cross-platform, and there aren’t any Neo-only or PS4-only exclusive games allowed.
There isn’t an official anouncement by Sony for this new console yet, but GiantBomb and EuroGamer confirmed the same information a few days ago.
The main aim of the Neo console seems to be focused on enhancing the PS4’s offering almost entirely from visuals and resolutions. Better frame rates alongside that make for a compelling offering.
But is it too little, too late? Given the timing of the Nintendo NX console and what we can expect from that, it’s interesting to see Sony do something like this to further their edge in the marketplace. Will they keep their lead? Or will Xbox take charge with an upgrade of their own?
It seems like the console wars aren’t over yet.
