Did The Last Of Us Actor Confirm A Prequel TV Series?

January 8, 2024 by Todd Black

A new series in the works?

To say that there was a lot of intrigue going into the latest edition of the award show slate would be an understatement, and sadly, it was a tale of “Two Shows.” You see, at the “Creative Arts Emmys,” The Last Of Us won eight times, including for many of their actors. However, the next night at The Golden Globes, the show didn’t get a single victory, which many will see as odd for one reason or another. However, one of the victories the show got at the Creative Arts Emmy was for Nick Offerman’s role as Bill in the first season’s iconic third episode.

The episode was so iconic because it heavily diverged from the video game and gave the characters of Bill and Frank a backstory and love story that was much different from the source material. While such things are big risks, the actors pulled it off masterfully, and Offerman won the Creative Arts Emmy for best guest role as a result. And in a talk with Deadline, he noted that there were talks for a “Bill and Frank” prequel series:

“Oh, great question but I would have to ask somebody with a higher pay grade than myself. It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We’re not short on ideas. We’ll just we’ll see what Craig and Neil come up with.”

While that would be an interesting enough idea, one has to wonder if it would be the “wisest thing to do” given that part of their story, or at least the meaningful part of their story, is that Bill was a loner and Frank was a “people person” and that they were only “whole” when they were together. Nothing official has been confirmed about potential spinoffs, but nothing is out of bounds right now due to how well The Last of Us did at HBO and is doing on the awards circuit.

Case in point: Season 2 of the series was confirmed to be coming after the first episode aired. Due to the Writers and Actors strike, production of it was pushed back, but things are starting to get back on track, and that has fans excited. Plus, we know that Season 2 won’t cover the full events of the second game, so multiple seasons are in the pipeline.
