The Last of Us Part II Remastered Dev Warns No Return Mode Is Stressful

January 4, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Don’t expect this game mode to be easy.

The Last of Us fans are preparing for a remastered release of The Last of Us Part II. While the original game is not that old, having the power of the PlayStation 5 allows the developers to go back and touch up the game. But this is not just a simple remastered release. There’s some extra content to get players to pick up this gameplay experience if they have already played through the original release. One of the game modes that might make the pick-up worth it will be No Return.

I’m sure you’re familiar with No Return. This game mode has been heavily discussed since Naughty Dog unveiled The Last of Us Part II Remastered. It’s a roguelike mode, constantly dealing with new challenges and runs. Don’t think of this as playing through the campaign over again. Instead, selected levels will be set up for players to progress through. However, as you can expect, players don’t know what these levels might contain. As a result, you could be in for a real battle with swarms of enemies, bosses, and other notable adjustments to keep you on your toes.

That might sound like fun for some players, but one developer who had worked on the game is warning players to expect some stressful moments. Thanks to Insider Gaming, we’re finding out that Del Walker, a senior character artist for Naughty Dog, chimed in about the upcoming No Return mode. This developer took to the X social media platform and stated that this is not a game mode for the weak-hearted.

I don't think you guys are ready for just how STRESSFUL the survive mode is for our #TLOU2remastered title. Not recommended for weak hearts https://t.co/g3G5pM3SFR

Instead, you will be surprised by how stressful this game mode will be. So prepare for a real battle when The Last of Us Part II Remastered releases into the marketplace. Fortunately, we know that this game mode will have a variety of different characters to select through. Each will have its attributes that will assist in your playstyle or even the specific challenge you might have to overcome in No Return. That might be a big relief, especially if you’re looking to go through the game as someone other than Abby, Ellie, or Joel.

We don’t have too much of a wait before we can dive into No Return ourselves. Currently, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to release on January 19, 2024. You’ll find it available for the PlayStation 5 platform when this game launches. In the meantime, you can view the trailer for the remastered release below. Likewise, you might want to pick this game up, as we will not receive the second season of the television series until next year. That will at least give you something to enjoy from this franchise as we wait until 2025 rolls around.
