The Last of Us has surprised fans worldwide with its live-action adaptation. Naughty Dog was known for delivering some cinematic gameplay experiences. These compelling narrative journeys and detailed worlds make for some easy adaptations. So now those who are not into video games are getting a taste of the thrilling experiences players have been enjoying. Now, most adaptations fail to deliver the same charm that video games typically offer. So it was a real treat to see the production team behind The Last of Us kept close to the source material.
Today, we’re finding out that this HBO live-action adaptation was so well done that it even landed a nomination for a Golden Globe. That’s a big deal because, thanks to PSU, we’re discovering that this is the first live-action video game adaptation ever to be nominated at The Golden Globes. Now, if you’re not too keen on award ceremonies, The Golden Globes is quite the big one. Nearly eighty years old at this point, this annual award ceremony is all about handing out awards to film and television series. This includes specific beloved shows, actors, and even the production team behind the various projects.
According to the official Golden Globes website, The Last of Us has been nominated for three awards. We’ll list the various awards the show is being nominated for and any specific information that might be noteworthy for the award.
The Last of Us Golden Globe Awards
- Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama (Bella Ramey)
- Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama (Pedro Pascal)
- Best Television Series – Drama (The Last of Us)
So it looks like both the leading actors attached to the show are nominated for an award along with the entire show. Of course, they will be up to some stiff competition, so we’ll have to wait and see if any awards land on the video game-adapted series. With that said, the show already took home an award last week. During The Game Awards, we saw The Last of Us received an award for the Best Adaptation category. This means the show topped the likes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Twisted Metal, among others.
Regardless, fans are eager to see the next season take place. Unfortunately, it will be a good while before the next season arrives. It looks like production will begin this coming year, which should mean the series’ second season will come out sometime in 2025.
