In a surprise announcement, Cyberpunk 2077 will get another notable update. Of course, you probably shouldn’t expect anything too massive. This update will arrive in the marketplace alongside the new edition release for for this game. If you don’t recall, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is set to arrive next month. But if you already own a copy of the base game alongside Phantom Liberty, this new update should potentially make you interested in revisiting Night City.
Announced today through the official Cyberpunk 2077 X social media account, the developers over at CD Projekt Red have confirmed a free update is coming. This update will bring the game version to 2.1, and much like the big 2.0 update, you will just see this land on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. According to the X post, it’s noted that we should see new and hotly anticipated gameplay elements. Just what those elements are remains a mystery. That said, it’s still an update that most fans were not expecting. After all, most of the development teams over at CD Projekt Red had shifted away from base game and Phantom Liberty.
So these new updates won’t likely be too massive, but we’ll have to wait and see what CD Projekt Red has up its sleeves. Right now, we should hear more about the update tomorrow when CD Projekt Red highlights Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Again, if you don’t recall, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is a new upcoming game release for Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5 platforms. This particular edition comes with the base game alongside the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been mainly completed, as there’s nothing major set to release now. With CD Projekt Red moving away from their in-house game engine to the Unreal Engine, game development for Cyberpunk 2077 was stopped after Phantom Liberty. With that said, the studio is far from finished with the IP. While the first game had a rough launch that even resulted in a lawsuit, the franchise will continue forward. A sequel, for instance, is in the works alongside a live-action project. However, we already know that this live-action project won’t be released in 2024. So, it might be a little while before we see anything new regarding Cyberpunk 2077. Instead, we’ll likely see the next iteration of The Witcher franchise as we recently discovered more of the development team has been moved onto that video game project.
