When the Super Mario RPG Remake was announced, fans couldn’t be happier to get the classic SNES game on Nintendo Switch with updated graphics. But, much like with all remakes, they wondered if there would be more in store for them. Sure enough, during the Nintendo Direct, the game was revealed to have new gameplay mechanics to help make the title even more tactical and fun. First, the Action Commands will help you do more damage or defend against attacks. But also, you can make attacks against all enemies and even make new “Triple Moves” to show off your parties’ full power!
Regarding those Triple Moves, the attack you do will depend on the party setup you have! Nintendo encourages you to try out multiple kinds of trios to see what powers you can unleash! That’s not all, though. The game will also let you retry bosses after defeating the main game! These bosses will have upgraded powers and abilities, so you must be at the top of your game to defeat them! You can check out the full Super Mario RPG Remake trailer below:
For those who have never played the game, we’ll break down what it’s all about. The title from the SNES era was the first title with Mario to be in RPG format. The vile Smithy Gang invades the Mushroom Kingdom and even takes over Bowser’s castle! After casting away Mario, our favorite plumber must travel the kingdom to defeat the gang and get new allies in the process. That includes a unique creature named Mallow, the possessed doll called Geno, and even Princess Peach and Bowser! Each character has their own moves and abilities that can help you in battle, and you’ll want to find the right kind of team for each boss fight.
Plus, you will encounter all sorts of unique characters, including those who aren’t in the Smithy Gang, such as the “cool Yoshi” known as Boshi. The game was a classic back on the SNES, and its gameplay helped inspire a certain “paper-thin” spiritual successor that also had news come out during the Nintendo Direct. The game has been brought to previous Nintendo systems via the virtual console. However, the new remake will be an excellent way for fans of the original title, or those who have always wanted to try it out, to see it in a new light.
The Super Mario RPG Remake RPGs its way onto the Nintendo Switch on November 17th.
