Rock Band 4 for the PC Crowdfunding Campaign Needs a Miracle

April 5, 2016 by Mitchell Saltzman

Crowdfunding campaign to bring Rock Band 4 and the Rock Band Network to PC needs to raise $750,000 in less than 24 hours

The sun is setting on a crowd funding campaign to bring Rock Band 4 over to the PC.

The campaign, going through the crowdfunding website Fig.com, started on March 1 and is looking to raise $1.5 million in order to bring the rock party to PC gamers, but as of this moment, Harmonix is still looking to raise more than $750,000.

The campaign seeks not only to bring Rock Band 4 to the PC, but also to resurrect the Rock Band Network, which was a network that allowed for both the upload and sale of custom songs in Rock Band 3. Rock Band Network was noticeably absent from the console versions of the game, but on the PC, its inclusion would be possible through the Steam Workshop, making it easier than ever for musicians to add their music to the game and receive a cut of the revenue whenever their song is sold.

Harmonix recently held an AMA on Reddit to further clarify some concerns with the campaign, such as whether or not Harmonix would continue planning on developing for PC, should the campaign not reach its goal, to which Harmonix replied:

“We’re definitely not looking at this like ‘If it doesn’t fund, PC is dead to us.’ It’s more about whether or not it makes sense to bring a future game to the platform. Rock Band VR is coming to Oculus, which is obviously PC, and I can definitely see other titles fitting nicely on PC as well. We’ll see!”

Rock Band 4 released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 6, 2015 to relatively high praise from fans and critics alike, but with the high cost of entry, along with the fact that DLC will not carry over from platform to platform, it’s not hard to see the struggles that this particular crowdfunding campaign has been seeing.
