Focus Entertainment has announced that Atlas Fallen has gone gold.
The official Focus Entertainment Twitter account made this simple announcement:
“We’re happy to announce that #AtlasFallen has gone GOLD!
See you on August 10 in the land of Atlas https://store.focus-entmt.com/eu/atlasfallengames”
Focus Entertainment has been mostly mum on Atlas Fallen since its initial announcement in August of 2022, in that year’s Gamescom event. While this was not their intention, when they announced the delay for the game in March of this year, it would make it so that the game would be releasing in about one year after its initial announcement.
For those who may not remember, Atlas Fallen is an action game that Focus Entertainment itself describes as being on an A level production, as opposed to AAA.
The noteworthy thing about Atlas Fallen is that it marks a genre shift for developer Deck13. While Deck13 is best known for producing Soulslike games, this one hews more closely to conventional action games. The studio names God of War and Horizon as inspiration.
So, you can forget the extremely harsh difficulty of Deck13’s prior games, and see it replaced with more exploration, across several open areas, and an RPG based power up system.
Your customizable player character will have the power to manipulate sand in a semi feudal, semi science fiction desert setting, and you can also utilize a meter system called Momentum. If you raise enough momentum from fighting enemies, you can activate a special ability.
Atlas Fallen will also feature side quests and a lot of NPCs to meet, so players can expect a completely different experience than they had with prior Deck13 games.
While we don’t know how well the game will come out yet, it follows a very strong year for publisher Focus Entertainment. This year so far we have seen them release the Bioshock inspired Atomic Heart, throwback retro shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, and the pulse pounding real time strategy game Aliens: Dark Descent.
All three titles received highly favorable reviews and seem to have performed well in the marketplace as well. Focus Entertainment has also done well making all these games multiplatform, to help whet the appetite for gamers of various platforms for something to play in between bigger releases, and we did see an unusually large number of AAAs this year.
This just generally seems to be a strong year for Focus, and it’s likely that Atlas Fallen will continue that trend.
Atlas Fallen will be released on August 10, 2023.
