CD Projekt Red is known for The Witcher franchise, and most recently, they delivered Cyberpunk 2077 into the marketplace. But they are far from finished with The Witcher universe. We know that a few projects that are set within the IP are in the works right now. However, it looks like the developers might have a slight unexpected stumble with Project Sirius. If you recall, just last week, CD Projekt Red revealed that they had established a new framework for the game.
Their North American studio, The Molasses Flood, seemed to have trouble getting this game into production. So when a new framework was established, we naturally thought this was a good sign for not only the project but the staff working on the game. But, unfortunately, we’re finding out today that The Molasses Flood suffered layoffs. Now we don’t know how many individuals were affected, but tweets emerged online just a day after the new framework was announced.
For instance, Robert Bailey, who was a technical narrative designer on Project Sirius, along with environment artist Eleanore Falck had both announced they were laid off. Both expressed just how much fun they were having on the game project before they received they found themselves being booted from the company. So we’re left waiting to see just how expansive these sets of layoffs were within the company and what this might mean for Project Sirius.
Out of speculation, some might assume that Project Sirius is now a much smaller scope game project which resulted in the series of employees being removed. That could have also allowed the costs to ensure this project saw its completion drop. But, of course, that’s purely speculative as we don’t have any official word on the matter. So we’ll have to wait on what Project Sirius ends up being when CD Projekt Red starts to market the game.
Meanwhile, their focus might be placed more on the successful launch of their next project, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. This is the first and last expansion for the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, which will only be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. It’s said that we can expect more from this expansion next month. That might also come with an official release date, as currently, the expansion only is slated to launch at some point this year.
