Poop The Alternative Suicide Button In ARK: Survival Evolved

March 18, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Stuck in Ark: Survival Evolved, feces will help with your respawn.

ARK
ARK: Survival Evolved by developers Studio Wildcard, Instinct Games, Efecto Studios, and Virtual Basement, was originally available for players starting on June 2, 2015, for PC. The game tosses gamers into an ancient world where players will have to survive against roaming dinosaurs, natural hazards, and at times, other hostile players.

However, when playing the game, gamers may find themselves, potentially locked into an area by other players. During these cases, the development team Studio Wildcard began to ponder on solutions outside the realm of a suicide key. Then it hit them, why not use poop?

Recently, Kotaku spoke with Susan Stieglitz, co-founder of Studio Wildcard. During the conversation, the topic of a suicide button for ARK: Survival Evolved came up. The lack of this command wasn’t done without careful thought with the developers behind ARK: Survival Evolved.

In fact, developers carefully decided on how players can take the easy way out if they become trapped during gameplay. Rather than hitting a simple suicide or respawn command, something that the developers felt would be unnatural, they decided to come up with a more natural way of committing self-harm within the game, the means of consuming your own poop.

The whole poop mechanic within ARK: Survival Evolved can easily be considered a comical one, but the reasoning behind the function is rather grim as its a biological function to kill oneself with when a player is stuck.

If you’re trapped in a room, (pooping) is the only conceivable biological function you could kill yourself with. Originally, we were debating putting in a suicide key to escape situations like that.

However, players can also simply carry around spoiled meat to reach the same suicide solution. While poop was placed into the game in order to cause self-harm, the item also can be used for other crafting purposes such as a planting system resource.
