Disney Interactive has announced that there will be no new Disney Infinity game this year but Disney Infinity 3.0 is set to expand with new characters and playsets.
The standout playset is a beat-’em-up addition called Marvel Battlegrounds, which is set to launch later this month. A cooperative – rather than competitive – brawler, Marvel Battlegrounds sees four players fight against robotic versions of Disney Infinity heroes. New Antman, Vision, Black Panther, and Captain America toys are featured as part of the playset.
“One of the most frequent requests we’ve received from fans is to extend the life of our Starter Packs,” general manager John Blackburn commented during the first Disney Infinity Next broadcast which you can see above. The broadcast reveals plenty of Marvel Battlegrounds gameplay.
“We’ll be releasing new playsets and content updates throughout the year to Disney Infinity 3.0 based on the biggest events coming from the Walt Disney company,” vice president of production John Vignocchi added.
Blackburn continued: “We can say that there will be one new playset from each of the four core brands at the Walt Disney company: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.”
Vignocchi explained what while there will be no new starter pack for the game, 3.0 will actually end up with more content than any other Disney game to date: “You can expect more characters and content coming to Disney Infinity 3.0 without having to buy a new Starter Pack. Ultimately, the 3.0 addition will be the largest collection of content ever released inside of a Disney game.”
What do you think of Disney’s decision to skip Infinity 4.0? If you have kids, your wallet will probably be grateful at the very least.
Disney Infinity 3.0 launched last August with Star Wars characters and environments being the main addition.
