Street Fighter 6 Unveils Release Date, New Maps, and Game Modes

December 8, 2022 by Ophelie Castelot

A better look at the highly-anticipated fighting game.

During The Game Awards 2022, Capcom revealed a new trailer for Street Fighter 6. It unveils new locations featured in the game, as well as new ways of fighting and mini-games to play between battles.

The new trailer opens with characters dancing on a beach to the beats of capoeira fighter Dee Jay, a new character introduced in Street Fighter 6. Capcom then took viewers on a tour of places featured in Street Fighter 6, from Metro City in the USA, the Colosseo in Italy, and the cabarets of France. Each of these places is home to a new hero, with Marisa being a gladiator from Italy, and Manon a performer from France. JP’s origin is unknown, but this mysterious older character might play an important role in Street Fighter 6 as he seemingly wields dark powers and is way more agile than he looks.

Street Fighter 6 sees fights in new parts of the world, offering a new take on the fighting game by putting battles in seemingly real-life places, from a park in the USA with bystanders cheering for a boxer beating up a man in a shirt and Oxford shoes to a shady fight in a back alley. This highlight of various places across the world is a reference to the new World Tour mode featured in Street Fighter 6, a single-player adventure where players can create their avatars to start their journey to becoming great fighters.

This new installment in the Street Fighter series features 2v2 battles, with two players on each team fighting at the same time. Street Fighter 6 will also feature various minigames, letting characters break down bottles with karate moves, chop down plates full of food, or throw basketballs around.

Just a few hours after its release date leaked on the PlayStation 4 store, Street Fighter VI confirms its launch on June 2, 2023. Pre-orders are already available, with bonus content including extra costume colors for Chun-Li, Jamie, Manon, Dee Jay, Juri, and Ken.

Street Fighter 6 art director Kaname Fujioka recently revealed his inspiration for the character design of 11 popular heroes, including Ryu, Ken, Guile, and Chun Li. The full roster of Street Fighter 6 will feature a total of 18 characters, including the new heroes Dee Jay, Manon, Marisa, and JP.

Street Fighter 6 will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on June 2, 2023.
