Something exciting surfaced on Reddit today. CD Projekt Red’s highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 just got some interface screenshots. According to Redditor /u/TheLastWitcher, these images came from Witcher 3‘s files and so may not be what the final assets will look like. Nevertheless, speculation is the only way to pass the time until Cyberpunk 2077‘s long-awaited release, so let the rampant speculation begin because why not? You can check out the images here.
Unfortunately, as other Redditors were quick to point out, the assets are likely placeholders since these would have been created too early in development for them to be final versions.
One of the biggest problems with the assets, which many seemed to be worried by, was the use of four button dialogue a la Fallout 4. Four button dialogue seemed to be a divisive issue in the thread, with many players arguing that it’s worked well in the past for some games.
Expectations are high for Cyberpunk 2077, especially after promises from CD Projekt Red that the game will be insanely ambitious compared to The Witcher 3. Development on Cyberpunk 2077 began last June, with the core Witcher 3 team making the transition over onto the new game. There’s still some work to be done with The Witcher 3, as the upcoming expansion Blood and Wine has yet to drop. CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski, inspired by Fallout 4‘s release, previously promised to show off some of Cyberpunk 2077 only when a “meaningful” part of the game was finished. When exactly that will be has yet to be determined.
Cyberpunk 2077 drops later in 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
