HoloLens To Launch With Three-Game Lineup, Includes New Conker Game

February 29, 2016 by Patrick Lindsey

Step into the future of gaming with a launch title from 15 years ago.

HoloLensEvery True Gamer™ knows that a console, handheld or, in this day and age, even VR headset, is only really as good as its launch lineup. Microsoft knows this as well as any, and has released information on the launch titles that will be supporting its upcoming HoloLens VR headset.

The new VR hardware will launch with three games supported: Two of these will be original IP, while one resurrects a classic(?) Rare fan favorite, Conker.

Titled simply Young Conker, the game will make significant use of the HoloLens’s VR capabilities, including its environmental recognition sensors, to create a dynamic game experience that varies based on the player’s current environment. The game is being developed by Rare, of course, with additional help from Asobo Studios, the team working on another of the HoloLens launch games.

“It is amazing how different the play experience feels based on playing the game in your living room versus your kitchen or your bedroom,” Kudo Tsunoda, Microsoft coroporate vice president, said in a press release. “Even starting the game from a different position in a single room creates an entirely new gameplay dynamic.”

The other HoloLens launch titles include Fragments, an augmented-reality crime drama that lets players interact with game characters in physical space via the headset. Rounding out the offerings is RoboRaid, which was previously playable at E3 2015 as Project X-Ray.

Microsoft is aggressively courting developers, hoping to help the HoloLens bloom into a thriving indie dev ecosystem. Starting Feb. 29, developers in the U.S. and Canada can prepurchase a dev kit. The bundle, which runs $3000, will be shipped on March 30.
