Skull and Bones is a game we’ve been waiting for. It’s been a long time coming, and while the development processes seemingly had its own choppy waters to navigate, the game’s release is nearing. If you’re unfamiliar with Skull and Bones, the game started development all the way back in 2013. However, Ubisoft didn’t officially unveil this game to the masses until the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017. Fans that tuned into E3 that year for the Ubisoft press media conference were treated to the reveal of a brand new pirates-themed game.
This initial reveal offered insight into more ship combat as players would sail to the open seas fighting off other pirates and the law. However, since that grand unveiling, Skull and Bones have endured several years of silence. Despite Ubisoft not officially confirming the game production had been canceled, things were not looking very bright for Skull and Bones. Although, we finally got a bit of light at the end of the tunnel in 2020. In 2020 Ubisoft confirmed that the development was pressing on.
Then in 2022, we received a new showcasing. Once again, players were shown traversing the open waters and battling other pirates in search of treasure. We were also given a new release date to mark on our calendars. If you want a more pirate-themed game to dive into, then Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones might be a viable option to run with soon.
When Does Skull and Bones release?
Are you looking to pick up Skull and Bones? This game was highlighted several years ago, and for some gamers, it was believed to be stuck in development hell. Fortunately, the developers have pressed on, and we’re finally nearing a release date. Players can mark their 2023 calendars as this game won’t make it out into the marketplace before 2022 wraps. On the bright side, there is not too much of a wait to endure once we get into 2023.
At the moment, the development team over at Ubisoft has planned Skull and Bones release for March 9, 2023. However, when the game does finally hit the marketplace, we’ll find it available for the current-generation console platforms. That’s right; it doesn’t look like Ubisoft will have the game available for the likes of Sony’s PlayStation 4 or Microsoft’s Xbox One. Instead, you’ll need a capable gaming PC, the PlayStation 5, or an Xbox Series X/S platform to enjoy this game at launch.
While we can mark our calendars for the game’s release, there’s always a chance the development team will push it back. Skull and Bones were initially supposed to release towards the end of 2022, but the developers needed a bit more time to prepare it for an official release. Hopefully, there’s enough time between now and its current release date to polish the game properly. In the meantime, you can check out the gameplay trailer down below.
