Batgirl has been, up to now, the upcoming American superhero movie that told the complete and intricate story of Batgirl, a Gotham hero who teamed up with Batman and Robin. Directed by Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and casting Michael Keaton in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne, Batgirl was set to debut on HBO Max late in 2022. On top of that, the star of Batgirl was Leslie Grace, a young American singer, songwriter, and actress.
However, recently DC Films merged with Discovery Studio. This, naturally, resulted in significant changes in management and overall goals. Since Batgirl’s production was concluded earlier this year, the movie has been in the test screening phase for the past few months. The records clearly showed that Batgirl is poorly received even with the test audience.
So, despite huge investments and numerous reshoots, the movie didn’t manage to keep up with the expectations of the new management to become the next big theatrical event film. Although the movie’s funding included $90-$100 million dollars, the idea of the Batgirl movie was altogether abandoned, making it historically the most expensive movie that wasn’t released.
On the other hand, the filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are still in the grace of WB Discovery as they actively looking for a fresh project for these outstanding filmmakers.
